Vet from over the mountain pass comes to examine and take x-rays (no equipment locally). Determines he has high ringbone with grim outlook. Likely crippled for life. That incident in December caused significant damage that has now calcified around the joint.
The equipment I got for him is now for sale.

Roany is feeling good enough to trot around the field when I ride Cowgirl out, even though he is favoring the FR. It no longer has any heat, but still looks swollen. He walks normally, but still says it hurts when putting weight on it, as when picking up his FL or trotting.

Swelling is down, but still not feeling right. But it is well enough for him to come at a trot.

Front Right continues to be very hot and swollen, and is losing hair now.

Front Right swells up and is very lame. Could be sprained. thumbnail FrontRight side angle thumbnail FrontRight side angle

Neighbor shoots off illegal fireworks. Roany's foot gets injured immediately.

Good progress: No pictures, but can report FR seems a little straighter, now FL is more toe in, still a work in progress.

Roany has picked up in energy, and put on weight, can no longer see ribs. Is finally willing to play a little with Cowgirl, and does trot around when left behind. Even seen a rare canter.
Hind feet have nice concavity, but front are fairly flat.
He does not stumble on rocks with new boots on.

After First trims.
Hinds cleaned up nice. Some concavity. Discoloration at HR toe looks connected with growth ring coming down.
Double checked balance on front, and took a little heel down.
Caught a picture of him leaning on the hill

but he is capable of standing straight inside on the flat.
Looks like he has a habit from bracing, when roping cows at the rodeo.
Also realized that all 4 were longer on the same right side.

Mostly before First trim. Has been running loose on the range since the last long ride on the ranch.
Since the group has been discussing reading the hoof lately, I'll comment:
I see angle changes down the front, moreso on the hinds, so will roll the edges to remove the leverage.
Laminar connection looks strong (on the front where I already added a small breakover), with no white line problems. I don't see a problem with high heels here. Bars are practically touching ground, so will touch them.
Cracking and dead sole indicates there may be concavity here, so am hopeful this will look better in time.
My question for the group is the crooked looking Front Right. He acts sound until asked to get active on it. It is painful, but not seriously so. X-rays are unlikely. Any guesses what might be going on here?
